I'm offering a walk from Shiplake Cross to the Thames and back via Shiplake College.
It's 4.5 miles, (some) free parking at the start, no stiles (but a lot of gates!), easy walking and several interesting features.
It is quite interesting historically, since it's linked to the ex-ferries at Bolney, Lashbrook and Wargrave, and also a more recent prolonged dispute over rights of way. The latter problem meant that the Thames Path doesn't go along the river here - but we can now (and it may be changed soon).
The map below shows the route - the numbers relate to interesting places I shall tell you about.

(You may also be interested in a set of maps of this area .... going back to 1763).

For anyone wishing to do the walk by themselves, here's a 4-page PDF with notes on the route and the places of interest.

The start point is a free car park at the Memorial Hall, half-way along Memorial Avenue, just to the north of Shiplake Cross and 500 yards from the A4155 Henley to Reading Road. The Grid ref is 764 787 and the Postcode is RG9 4DN.
I would highly recommend car sharing - so that locals are ensured of their parking places, if necessary.

The date is Friday 10th July, starting at 10:30. It would be nice if you could email me if you want to come:

Email: chrisandsuefrench@gmail.com or Tel: 0118 9781534

Lunch at The Plowden Arms is recommended and is very near the end of the walk(Point 15) - but I shall need numbers to ensure I can guarantee a suitable table.
